Cindy Sherman Expo.

Walking around upstairs in the Cindy Sherman expedition in the Wellington City Gallery seeing all the different types of identities being masked by the artist I stumbled upon a particular piece which to me resonated more than the other. Part of Sherman’s ‘Chanel‘ series, Cindy had dressed in a feather like long cloak consuming most of her body. This resonated to me because of the manipulation of her facial and body like features. Her identify had become animal like in such a cloak essentially dehumanising her into a bird like woman. To me this show the artist alluding to the animals who died in order to make such a fashion garment she was wearing. In a way showing her true thoughts of the darker side of the fashion industry.
