State of play:
Idea 1.
How can communication design facilitate greater awareness of Video gaming as a viable career in today’s society? I’ll explore this through design and its environment and its social influences.
- Showing that playing video games is a viable career.
Professional E-sports athlete. Compete in teams like below which is Team Liquid a North American Based team.
Play in big tournaments, like below. This shows the popularity of e-sports. This is only the people who went to the stadium, millions watched online.
Internationally it’s becoming huge with tournaments around the globe not just in Korea or the US.
Even players from NZ are competing. This is Sean Kaiwai aka ‘Gratisfaction’, he and his team just signed for one of the biggest organizations in esports 100 thieves.
Just like any other sort of sports or competition, you can get big sponsors such as BMW, Puma, Adidas, HP Omen, etc.
But it doesn’t always have to be as an E-sport athlete. You can earn and make your own career through uploading on youtube or just streaming games live for people around the world to watch.
There are multiple different platforms to work on ranging from Youtube through to twitch.tv or Mixer.
An NZ example would be the YouTuber Fitz.
He is part of a Content Creator group called the ‘Misfits’ who are based in Australian but are very well known internationally.
Idea 2.
How can Communication Design facilitate greater awareness of Video Game addiction/Gaming disorder? I’ll explore this through design, the social impact and way to improve wellbeing.
